7 pieces of equipment from PICVISA’s ECOPACK optical separator line have been installed with the most innovative developments, including artificial intelligence. The ECOPACK family, based on NIR technology and with the possibility of incorporating Deep Learning, continues its progress in the waste sector.

The 7 units are located at different points in the process, for the recovery of recoverable materials PET, HDPE, mixed plastics, CBA and paper/cardboard. The equipment is sized and configured to process both municipal solid waste (MSW) and selectively collected light packaging. The flexibility and versatility of the equipment facilitates a rapid adaptation of all parameters to different types of flows.

The configuration and arrangement of the optics in the treatment line is studied to achieve the maximum global recovery of the installation, minimizing the loss of recoverable materials in the rejection of the plant. The 2D material from the two ballistic separators joins in a single flow that feeds an ECOPACK-3000, which recovers paper/cardboard.

The 3D material from the two ballistic separators is also joined in a single line to feed the rolling optics cascade. The first equipment, an ECOPACK-3000, separates all the recoverable material (plastics and CBA). The non-blown material falls into a second optical separator, also an ECOPACK-3000, which recovers any remaining recoverable material.

Once the recoverable material has been separated, this flow passes to an ECOPACK-2000 equipment, which complements NIR-based technology with the artificial intelligence “BRAIN Add-on by PICVISA” (Deep Learning), classifying PET containers and discriminating thermoformed trays if the client so parameterizes it.

The next step is the classification of HDPE using an ECOPACK-1000, and finally the material passes through an ECOPACK-2000 with 2 channels: the CBA is classified through one channel, and the final rejection is redirected to the second channel for the recovery of containers and recirculated to the head of the opticians, minimizing the loss of recoverable materials.

All PICVISA optical separators are supplied ready to integrate the additional artificial intelligence module “BRAIN Add-on” at any time, reflecting PICVISA’s commitment to a vision of the future for its equipment that can easily adapt to new customer requirements or market developments.
