PICVISA sponsored and attended the ASPLARSEM biennial day, held on May 31st and June 1st, 2017, in Madrid, under the theme "Packaging on the 2020 horizon".

ASPLARSEM brings together companies and professionals working across the packaging industry in Spain, and a theme like "Packaging on the 2020 horizon" reflects the kind of forward-looking discussions that took place – what packaging would need to look like, and how it would need to be processed at end of life, within the timeframe the title pointed to. Sponsoring an event with this framing put PICVISA's sorting technology directly into conversations about what packaging recovery infrastructure would need to be capable of in the years ahead.

Looking back, many of the trends discussed at events like this – recyclability by design, more demanding sorting requirements for multilayer materials, growing regulatory pressure on packaging waste – have continued to shape how sorting technology has developed since.
