Hardware gets most of the attention in sorting equipment, but it's often the software running underneath that determines how much of that hardware's potential actually gets used.
PICVISA has launched a new software platform for its ECOPACK and ECOGLASS optical sorting lines, oriented towards the continued evolution of the equipment these systems run on.
The software layer of an optical sorting system is what translates raw sensor data into sorting decisions – how materials are classified, how quickly the system responds, and how easily operators can adjust settings for different material streams. A new software platform allows improvements to be rolled out across this layer without necessarily requiring changes to the underlying hardware, extending the useful life and capability of equipment already in the field.
This kind of software-driven evolution reflects a broader pattern across industry 4.0 – where much of the ongoing improvement in industrial equipment comes not from replacing machines, but from upgrading the software that controls them.
